Iyengar Yoga teachers approach each student individually, using their extensive knowledge about yoga asanas (postures). The techniques are specially adjusted according to different body types, presence of injuries or sickness, and also for the periods of pregnancy and menstruation.
The most prominent methods that Iyengar Yoga teachers use and what makes them special are explaining and showing all asanas with maximum clarity; observing carefully whether or not the students are performing asanas correctly; and emphasizing the aspects of training that awaken body’s intelligence. The teachers prepare special sequence of asanas and breathing exercises that will help the students to develop the understanding and habits necessary to achieve the progress from one posture to another, from one grade to the next and from year to year.
The classes start with learning the basic asanas. With time, other asanas are added to the program, including those involving back and forward stretching, bending, reverse and corrective postures. Each lesson is completed with Savasana – a rest and relaxation posture. After mastering the asanas you will learn to control your body and the balance of energy within it. You will start to make your moves with more awareness, control your breathing and calm your mind.
